Golden Little Star is a Human Service Organization partner of Access East and the Healthy Opportunities Pilot Program. We stand for our mission: to give individuals a chance at stable housing and to prevent homelessness.
We are proud to share the heartwarming journey of our first participant, who has not only found a home but also regained hope and confidence.
From Homelessness to Stability: Our Comprehensive Approach
When the participant and their child first approached us, they were teetering on the edge of homelessness. But, through our holistic approach, we not only provided a roof over their head but also ensured they had the tools and resources to maintain their new home for the long run.
Housing Navigation, Support & Sustaining Services: Every individual has a unique journey and unique needs. We worked closely with our participant, identifying their housing preferences, and drawing up a housing support plan tailored to them. Moreover, our services didn't stop at just placing them in a house. Through ongoing monitoring and guidance on independent living skills, we ensured they felt equipped and empowered in their new home.
Inspection for Housing Safety & Quality: The safety and quality of a home are paramount. Our lead case manager, Kiara, conducted thorough inspections to ensure that our participant’s dwelling was not just habitable, but also free from any health or safety risks.
Housing Move-In Support: Transitioning into a new home comes with its own set of challenges. We ensured that our participant’s move was as smooth as possible by covering necessary expenses, from moving charges to essential household items, making their transition into a new chapter seamless.
Healthy Home Goods: Health and safety do not stop at inspections. To ensure the home environment was continually safe and conducive to good health, we provided necessary home goods.
One-Time Payment for Security Deposit and First Month’s Rent: To truly alleviate the financial burdens and stresses that come with securing a new place, we provided a one-time payment to cover the security deposit and the first month’s rent. All homes selected went through rigorous checks, ensuring they met the Housing Quality Standards (HQS), were priced reasonably, and passed a debarment check.
